Memento Mori
Memento Mori
was a collaboration with BAIRA Presented at CPR – Center for Performance Research as part of the @CPR Performance Series in a shared evening with Beth Graczyk Productions.
Media Design Integration
BAIRA invited me to collaborate in their creative process and expand some of the haptic design metaphors created through Devil’s Shoestring. I used this opportunity to expand LOAM’s spatial audio design capabilities and intimate haptic/sonic experiences.
Spatial Audio Design: Tactile transducers were connected to five cardboard boxes, turning them into onstage speakers. The boxes were spread throughout the stage space, allowing me to pan and move audio across the space.
Intimate Haptic/Sonic Experiences: The production transition from Beth Graczyk’s work to Memento Mori involved audience participation. Audience was invited to help arrange the cardboard boxes throughout the space. I moved sound across the boxes, and people holding the boxes could hear the sound coming from the box and feel the boxes vibrate when audio passed through the tactile transducers. I also put a tactile transducer in a small prop which was passed around the audience midway through the piece. People holding the prop could put it up to their ear to hear a conversation being whispered into a microphone onstage.
